How to check when a Greenhouse job was posted

Greenhouse is the one hiring system where the checker can show two dates for a posting: when it was first published and when it was last updated.

Which dates Greenhouse publishes

Greenhouse's public API returns a first-published date and an updated date. The checker shows the first-published date as "Originally posted" and adds "Last updated" when the two differ.

Of the five systems we check, Greenhouse is the only one whose last-updated date actually shows up in practice. That date moves whenever someone edits the posting, so it can be much newer than the original. Read "Originally posted" to see how long the job has been listed.

On some older boards the first-published date is missing and only the updated date is left. That date can reflect the last edit rather than the original posting, so treat it with care.

If the job is closed or missing

A missing Greenhouse posting and a missing Greenhouse board return the same 404. The checker can't tell them apart, so it shows "Closed or no longer listed". That also covers a mistyped company name in the link.

Greenhouse doesn't supply a closing date. It has an application deadline field, but it was empty on every posting we looked at, so the checker never shows a closing date.

How to spot a Greenhouse job

Look at the link. Greenhouse-hosted postings usually look like job-boards.greenhouse.io/{company}/jobs/{number}. The older boards.greenhouse.io address redirects to the newer one.

Some companies embed Greenhouse on their own site instead. Those links often end in ?gh_jid= followed by the job number, and the company name isn't in the address.

Check a Greenhouse link

Paste the company's apply link into the Job Age Checker. Don't use a LinkedIn or Indeed link, because those are refused.

Paste the link from the company's careers site or its hiring system (Greenhouse, Lever, Ashby, SmartRecruiters, Workday).
