Tailor your resume to a job, with a match score

Every job you add to Cursu gets a score from 0 to 100 against your profile. You can see how closely a posting matches what you've already written about yourself before you spend an evening on the application.

How the match score works

Cursu compares the job with your profile and gives it a score from 0 to 100, and equivalent skills count toward it. Next to the score, it shows the job's keywords in two groups: the ones that are in your profile, and the gaps. You can see at a glance what the posting asks for that you haven't mentioned.

Each score comes with a plain-language explanation and the main gap holding it back. Skills you've confirmed as equivalent count in full. Suggested ones count only partly until you confirm them.

Reading the gaps

Take a gap as a prompt to look at your profile again. Some gaps will be things you've done but never wrote down, and those are worth adding. Others will be things you haven't done, and they don't belong on your resume. Cursu shows you the gap. Only you know which kind it is.

Tailoring your resume to the job

Choose Apply on a job and Cursu tailors your resume to it, then shows you the changes it proposes. You review every one. Any change can be unticked or edited. If a suggestion says something that isn't true of you, untick it. If it's close but not quite right, edit it.

When you're done, check the new score: Verify Match scores the resume exactly as it will be sent. It shows whether the changes you kept moved the match.

"Apply" here is the tailoring step. Submitting an application stays with you.

Why you review every change

A tailored resume is still your resume. Your name is on it, and an interviewer can ask you about any line. So Cursu shows you what it would change and leaves the decision with you, instead of handing back a finished file and asking you to trust it.

Export

When you're happy with the result, export your resume to Word. You get a file you can open, adjust and send however the employer asks. On plans that include it, Cursu writes a cover letter for the job in the tone you pick. You can edit it, copy it or download it as a Word file.

The order is: add a job, read its score and keywords, tailor, review each change, check the new score, export.

What the score is and isn't

The score is a way to compare a job with your profile. It isn't a prediction of what an employer will do.

Before you tailor anything

Tailoring a resume for a job that closed weeks ago is wasted work. The free Job Age Checker shows when a posting was first published and whether it's still open. Paste a company job link to see.
